Week 1 (17th to 23rd May)

Thursday 18th May 2023 Having been shattered on day 1 and making the decision to skip "cooking" today, upon waking up, I felt slightly stronger when standing up. When trying to stand up from the sofa I felt it was much better than pre Mollii so Hilary filmed me standing up. I then mashed it together with a pre-Mollii clip to generate the first of hopefully many pre and post Mollii clips. In the clip that follows, pre Mollii is on the left and after Mollii (day 2) is on the right.
Not much else was noted on the Thursday. Friday 19th May 2023 Feeling fresh, we proceeded with treatment number 2. Following the treatment I found it easier standing up. When sitting back down I had much greater control and was gently sitting down rather than just dropping. I found that I was able to stand for a lengthy period of time without holding on to anything and without losing balance. This included twisting my upper body from left to right Saturday 20th May 2023 As we were going to parkrun there wasn't going to be any time to have a treatment, however, I was able to move my normally unresponsive left leg. Laying on my back in the bed I moved the leg over to the left, lifted it in the air and then lowered it back to the mattress. I moved my right ankle closer to my back with my knee forming an upside V shape. Nothing unusual in that. I then replicated the movement with my left leg. This hasn't happened for several years. Next we proceeded to dress me as we do every day. Briefs and tracksuit bottoms pulled up to my knees, before I stood up. At this stage Hilary would normally finish the job. Not this time though as I was able to do it, as I had much better flexibility with my weaker left hand. I attempted a couple of steps and although I completed them they were very unsteady. Im the bathroom I was able to turn the taps on using BOTH hands, long time since I last did that with my left hand. The final thing that I did without Hilarys help was to put my left trainer on. I let her do the laces though. Getting in and out the car was much easier and balance was significantly better. I was able to sit in my mobility scooter with both feet on the foot plates without having a Clonus attack and maintained that position for a lengthy period of time. Later in the evening I had a shower and afterwards I was able to dry myself without many problems. This included squatting down to dry my feet and lower legs and maintaining my balance. Just before the shower we had a conversation about what we probably need to do in order to benefit the most. This will form a seperate blog. Monday 22nd May Another day where I was able to pull my briefs and shorts up by myself again. I was fairly balanced and stable. When I went into the office instead of pushing on the glass of the patio door I managed to reach behind me with my left hand and grabbed the door handle to slide it shut. I was so surprised I opened the door, again with my left hand, and shouted at Hilary to watch me. So I did it again just because I could. Whilst sitting at my desk I was able to move my left foot forward, to the left and to the right in a relatively normal manner - i.e. lifting it not sliding. Wasn't able to bring it back though. Tuesday 23rd May This was our first day of "cooking" every day in the suit. Although nothing major happened I was still exhibiting better balance. |
